MEDA creates business solutions to poverty by connecting market actors. The view from the captain's bridge is needed to steer the ship, and MEDA's projects and partners, to prosperity. MEDA works with small and medium enterprises and smallholder farmers, who often work in rural locations in remote corners of Ghana and Tanzania. One key method, or navigational tool, is mobile data collection. MEDA uses mobile technology to gather data from vulnerable populations working in complex market systems. MEDA found that for elegant and efficient mobile data collection, smart survey forms, trust with partners, lean approaches, and incentives were needed to build the business case for bridges out of poverty. Trust is needed to build the evidence case for positive social and business outcomes. Technology has allowed for course corrections to be made in a timely fashion through both stormy weather and fair skies.
