The neutral assessment of the evaluation function is a requirement of the 2016 Policy on Results. It must be conducted every five years and its scope and approach can be determined by each department. Federal departments can use the information generated through these assessments to target improvements in their evaluation function.

Two experienced federal evaluators, from Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, discuss two very different approaches used to conduct the neutral assessment of the evaluation function within their respective departments. Presenters will share their experiences conducting the assessment using external and internal resources.

With the goal of making their work more useful to their departments, this short presentation aligns with the subtheme of Sustaining and Using Bridges. The presenters aspire to generate discussion on the importance of assessing the work they do with the overall goal of making the evaluation function invaluable to decision-makers within their respective departments.
