Conferences such as CES are presented as bridges that offer passage of ideas and insights, link theory and practice, and connect colleagues from around Canada and beyond. However, conferences can be critiqued on various grounds, including the financial and environmental costs of travel, limited opportunities for deep discussion and dialogue, and questions of whether participants' learning gains can be sustained when they return home.

This consultation session will utilize the World Cafe method, which supports collaborative dialogue as well as visual recording. Two key questions will be explored: what outcomes make a conference relevant and useful for us as participants, our field, and the communities we work in, and what are some specific changes that can be incorporated in future evaluation conferences to "shore up" this key bridge? Responses will be collected through a full-group "Harvest" process and a summary shared online and with CES, including the Sustainability Working Group.
